TIME TO REFORM CREDIT CARD INDUSTRY?.
One of New Jersey?s US Senators is pushing for reforms in the credit card industry.
Senator Bob Menendez wants to place stricter limits on credit card companies to prevent what he calls predatory lending practices. He?s sponsoring a Senate bill called the Credit Card Reform Act. According to Menendez it would end what he describes as egregious credit card practices that lure Americans into financial traps, like excessive fees, retroactive rate increases, universal default and deceptive credit card offers.
Menendez says he knows he?s in for a fight with the credit card companies over the bill, but that it does have support in both houses of the legislature.
The National Bankers” Association was contacted for comment for this story but did not return a call.
